MERSIN INTERNATIONAL PORT WELCOMES FIRST 400-METER MEGA VESSEL AT NEWLY COMPLETED EMH2 TERMINAL

Mersin, Türkiye, 6 October 2025 - Mersin International Port (MIP) marked a major milestone with the successful berthing of the 400-meter mega vessel MSC DITTE at its newly completed East Med Hub 2 (EMH2) Terminal, which spans 880 meters. The arrival of the 19,313 TEU container ship was celebrated with a welcome ceremony, underscoring MIP’s growing role in international maritime logistics.

The ceremony was hosted by MIP General Manager, Mr. Ajay Kumar Singh, and attended by Singapore Embassy Chargé d'Affaires, Ann Margaret Mathew; Mersin Customs Protection, Smuggling and Intelligence Director, Kubilay Uyar; TCDD Mersin Port Operations Manager, Murat Birinci; MSC Overseas Terminals Coordinator, İbrahim Tosunoğlu; MSC Deputy General Manager of Operations, Sibel Uygun; MSC Mersin Regional Manager, Uğur Tosuner; Mersin Chamber of Shipping Board Member, Atahan Çukurova; Mersin Chamber of Commerce and Industry Board Member, Gökben Gökbulut; Mersin Commodity Exchange Deputy Secretary General, Serpil Tatar; President of the Mersin Industrialists and Businessmen Association, Adnan Gündoğdu; Chairman of the Turkish-Iraqi Industrialists and Businessmen Association, Mehmet Salih Çelik, members of the Mersin Chamber of Commerce and Industry Assembly and Committees, and MIP representatives.

General Manager of MIP, Mr. Ajay Kumar Singh said in his speech at the ceremony, "Today, we are proud to host ‘MSC DITTE’ at Mersin International Port. This marks a historic milestone that reinforces the port’s strategic role in global trade and its growing importance as a regional logistics hub. Large vessels like MSC DITTE are increasingly vital to the global supply chain - they boost efficiency, reduce costs, and support sustainability by lowering carbon emissions per container. Successfully handling a vessel of this scale demonstrates Mersin International Port’s readiness to support seamless international cargo movement. With deep quay infrastructure, high-capacity cranes, and advanced digital operations, the EMH2 Terminal is well-equipped to handle the world’s largest vessels, further strengthening Mersin’s connectivity across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.

MSC Mersin Regional Manager, Mr. Uğur Tosuner said in his speech, "Mersin is our country's most important trade gateway, connecting Anatolia to the world and the world to Anatolia. The MSC DITTE vessel, with a capacity of 19,313 TEU, which has brought us together here today, is one of the largest members of our tiger service. It will provide fast and direct connections to the West Africa and Far East regions, which are important markets in global trade. MSC has always believed in Türkiye and continues to demonstrate this belief through its nationwide investments. Alongside these investments, a symbol of this belief is naming the world's largest vessel, currently sailing the world's waters, ‘MSC TÜRKİYE’ in honor of the 100th anniversary of our Republic. I hope and sincerely believe that we will see ‘MSC TÜRKİYE’ in Mersin, welcome it at MIP, and take pride in it."

Speaking at the ceremony, Singapore Embassy Chargé d'Affaires, Ms. Ann Margaret Mathew said, "We are eager to see the completion of the EMH-2 Terminal and its ability to accommodate much larger container vessels such as the ‘MSC DITTE’. In a period of trade tensions due to global issues, we see MIP continuing to contribute to strengthening economic development links and a robust global supply chain. This investment is a symbol of PSA's commitment to MIP's future. It also demonstrates Singapore's confidence in Türkiye’s long-term growth prospects. I am pleased to note that MIP is investing not only in Türkiye’s physical infrastructure but also in its youth through the Global Management Association (GMAP) program."
